Nostell Priory & Parkland near Wakefield to the north of Doncaster is built on the site of a medieval priory & has
been the home of the Winn family for 300 years. Built by James Paine in 1733 for Sir Rowland Winn, later
additions by Robert Adam created exceptional interiors. Visitors can explore 300 acres of parkland, gardens
including lakeside walks, a newly planted orchard and an adventure playground. Inside the house there is a
collection of Chippendale furniture made specially for Nostell, paintings by Brueghel, Hogarth and Kauffmann
& also a John Harrison ('Longitude') longcase clock and an 18th-century dolls' house
Mr Straw's House in Worksop to the south of Doncaster is a step back in time to the 1920s when you can see how
a grocer's family lived in this market town. This ordinary semi-detached house, with original interior decorations
from 1923, was the home of the Straw family, who for 60 years threw little away and chose to live without many
of the modern comforts we take for granted. Photographs, letters, Victorian furniture and household objects
spanning 100 years can still be seen exactly where their owners left them.
